Every two years we come together for a three day Camp coordinated by the Players’ Association. The main purpose of the camp is to provide Indigenous players with opportunities and skill development so we can support each other during our AFL journey. The Camp also enables us to contribute and give feedback about support programs offered to us.

With the inaugural Camp being held in Yuroke, Victoria in 2000, other locations have included Uluru, Broome, Townsville, Palm Island and Darwin. In recent years the Camp has also doubled as a training opportunity for the Indigenous All Stars Game, with the game being played in the days following.

In 2011, the Indigenous Camp was held in Sydney at the National Centre for Indigenous Excellence, Redfern. The theme for the latest camp was ‘Legacy’ and players were asked throughout the camp to think about what legacy we wanted to leave behind on and off the field and how we might go about doing this. Highlights of the camp included a development program where we discussed culture and what it meant to them, how we can contribute and have more of a voice at our clubs and how to keep more players in the game for longer. Other highlights included for the first time the attendance of club Player Development Managers, community events and visits to some NSW schools including South Sydney High School where a clinic was run with year eight and nine students where some were exposed to AFL for the first time.
