Ian Prendergast and his team are responsible for the accreditation and management of all player agents.
There are currently 60 accredited player agents who look after the day-to-day requirements of over 90% of the current playing group.
As players, the need to have a suitably qualified and motivated player agent is essential to ensuring our best interests are always the main priority both in terms of our playing careers and life away from football.
In 2010, the Players’ Association introduced a Continued Professional Development requirement on all existing player agents, making it compulsory for them to achieve a minimum level of approved professional development before they are allowed to apply for reaccreditation each year.
To coincide with this requirement, the PA also introduced a range of development sessions, specifically tailored to help skill agents in a range of key areas relevant to the industry.
The Player Relations department also acts as first point of call for all player agents seeking clarification and advice, whether it’s in relation to the CBA, Player Rules or any other workplace matter. They act as another resource for your player agent to ensure our rights are maintained and the minimum standards are upheld.
Other services the Player Relations department offers include assistance with lodging claims under the CBA, an Annual Agents Conference focused on industry issues and the future direction of the game and access to Wellbeing services similar to those offered to players.
