Ladder Christmas Appeal

By Heath Evans 9:37AM Thursday 15 December 2011

When the excitement of Christmas is upon us, it’s easy to forget that for young people experiencing homelessness this time of year can be a nightmare. Family breakdown, isolation and lack of support networks can leave them feeling very alone.

With the backing of socially minded AFL players and footy fans, Ladder is a charity committed to helping young people break the debilitating cycle of homelessness.  Like 19 year old Jane, who had been kicked out of home with nowhere to stay apart from a tent in a friend’s backyard.  Needless to say her health suffered and she was struggling to see a light at the end of the tunnel.  Jane was determined to not live like that forever, but didn’t know how to take the first step forward in to the life that she deserves.

In 2011, Ladder has been at the heart of helping young people like Jane find their feet.  Leveraging our strong community partnerships, young people like Jane are off the streets and living in safe and supported environments.  Ladder’s Life Skills and Mentoring programs are the icing on the cake, meaning that she has every chance of achieving her goal to live independently. Jane is now enrolled in a fulltime TAFE course, works in the evenings and is slowly rebuilding her relationships with family and friends.

Sadly, there are over 32,000 young people just like Jane that are homeless tonight.  The need for support for these vulnerable young people couldn’t be greater.

You can help change their lives alongside AFL players including Jobe Watson, Andrew McLeod and Luke Ball, who are backing Ladder’s work in the community

With your help, we can make sure that young people like Jane are not alone.  Not just at Christmas, but 365 days a year.

Be part of the team tackling young homelessness.
