Our Association

The priority of AFL Players always has been, and always will be, to play good footy and contribute to team success.

But we also know that, as players and people, we have to be engaged in issues that affect us, and must work toward ensuring that our teammates and colleagues eventually walk away from the game having had a good experience on and off the field.

That’s why in 1973 we created a body that would strive to protect and enhance the interests of AFL players and the game we love.

It’s the AFL Players’ Association. It was created by players. And it exists for players.

Every AFL player is a member and every one of us contributes to the running of our Association, by paying yearly fees and also by directing a portion of our funding allocation under the Collective Bargaining Agreement to the organisation.

Today the AFL Players’ Association provides a range of services directly to players – from welfare support, to education, to career advice – and offers spirited representation of our views and interests to a wide range of stakeholders, within the AFL industry and also in the broader community.
