AFL players playing the AFL Hall of Fame tribute match have donated their match fees, totalling $250,000 ($5,000 per player) to three worth causes, including a $100,000 donation to the AFLPA Past Player Health Hardship Fund.

Two other worthy causes received player donated funds, including the innovative Ladder program and RecLink Australia.

Previously, AFL players were only permitted to wear the brand of boot which sponsored their club. But thanks to lobbying by the AFL Players' Association, on behalf of all AFL players, AFL players enjoy the right to wear the type and brand of football boot they prefer.

AFL Racial & Religious Vilification Policy

PRIME Minister Kevin Rudd has given the AFL's refined illicit drugs policy a tick of approval.

Mr Rudd called in to Melbourne radio station 3AW during a talkback discussion on Friday morning and described the changes as "a step forward".

"They're making progress on this and we would support them in sending a clear message that drugs in sport are unacceptable," Mr Rudd said.
