Maree Selwood 2005 AFL Mother of the Year

The AFL Players' Association is pleased to announce that Maree Selwood, mother of twins in West Coast's Adam and Brisbane's Troy is the inaugural winner of the AFLPA Mother of the Year competition.
Maree (pictured above with husband Bryce and two of her four son's, Joel & Scott) received her award at a breakfast function at Telstra Dome.
Nominated by West Coast Eagles Coach John Worsfold, Maree Selwood was judged Mother of the Year by a panel consisting of Marj Aylett, Jo Curkpatrick and Karen Lyon from the Kangaroos Network of Women and Brendon Gale, Chief Executive Officer of the AFLPA, from nominations provided through the AFL Players' Association.
Maree was thrilled with her win. "I feel very honored and privileged to receive this award. I can only say the last 2 and a half years that Adam & Troy have been away have been very challenging as a mother. Between our four sons we have clocked up a zillion kilometers, Darwin, Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide and recently Ireland as well as our million trips to Melbourne and other country towns in Victoria. I am very proud of my boys, but no prouder than any other mother sitting in this room. So on behalf of all AFL mothers I accept this award and say well done Mums", Maree said.
With both Adam and Troy about to turn 21, Maree has shown ample commitment to both her son's footy careers.
Maree's ability to meet the challenges of having her two boys relocate to just about as far away from the family base in Bendigo as you can get, in Brisbane and Perth to undertake their football journey, left the judges in no doubt that Maree is a super mum.
The Selwood family balance holidays around the two boys, which often means the Selwood's split during holidays, with Dad Bryce in Brisbane to spend time with Troy and Maree off to Perth for time with Troy or vice versa.
Entries for the competition were received from all across Australia.
