Ladder at a glance

What is Ladder?
• Ladder is an entity created by the AFL Players’ Association and AFL Foundation in 2007 whose purpose is to address the issue of youth homelessness across Australia.
• Ladder aims to have programs that improve the lives of homeless young people operating in each state in the next few years.
• Ladder is, in essence, Australian football’s response to one of this country’s most important social issues
Where are we at?
• Ladder, with the Victorian State Government (Office of Housing) is looking at three different sites as a long term home for Ladder Foyer Victoria all of which are close to Melbourne’s CBD to maximise access to educational and work experience opportunities for the residents.
• Ladder is also looking at starting an interim model in a temporary facility to roll out the innovation component of the service model. It is foreseen that this will launch later this year.
• Ladder with the South Australian Government (Department of Families and Communities) is currently in negotiations on a site that will be the location for Foyer South Australia and provide an area to launch the innovation component of the service model in early 2009.
• Players in the recent AFL Hall of Fame game donated $100,000 to Ladder, which was a tremendous gesture by all involved.
