In 2007 a multi media deal was struck between the AFL and the AFLPA as part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

One aspect of this deal is the weekly programs undertaken on www.afl.com.au through AFL Films. There are four programs running throughout the season and during finals which provide a payment to participating players. Other opportunities, above and beyond these programs, also become available from time to time.

The programs include:

‘Thursday Ins and Outs’– from 6 until 7pm Thursday’s delivered via Telstra’s Next G™ and 3G Networks. The program features a selected player running through the In’s and Out’s for the upcoming round. The informal program provides players with an opportunity to try out media in a studio environment.

‘Friday Tipoff’– from 10:15 until 11:15am Friday’s – is a light hearted program compared by Billy Brownless and Andy Maher. The selected player covers the upcoming round of games as well as a brief chat regarding their team’s game and their tips for the round.

‘Saturday Central’– from 12:45 until 2pm Saturday’s – a selected player participates in the program discussing the Friday night game as well as the weekends games.

‘Sunday Central’– from 12:45 until 2pm Sunday’s – is similar to ‘Saturday Central’ where a selected player takes part in the program in a studio environment and discusses the Saturday night game/s and the games to come. These programs are hosted by a range of former footballers or sports television presenters.

Both ‘Saturday Central’ and ‘Sunday Central’ are aired on Telstra’s Bigpond network.

Players from all teams apart from Essendon (due to their Club’s commercial arrangement with sponsor 3) are invited to take part in the programs. Players who have taken part to date have enjoyed the experience immensely.
