Becoming an accredited agent

As the body representing the collective professional interests of AFL Players, the Players' Association has an obligation to ensure that competent and ethical individuals represent its members.

To help ensure this, the Players' Association manages a compulsory accreditation process for AFL player agents.

PLEASE NOTE: THE 2012 ACCREDITATION PERIOD WILL OPEN ON THE 1ST OF MAY 2012.  THE APPLICATION FORM WILL BE AVAILABLE FROM THIS DATE.

How the process works

Applications to become an Accredited Agent are only accepted during the Agent Accreditation Period.

Individuals must complete the following steps in order to become an Accredited Agent.

Step 1 - Complete the Application for Accreditation as an Accredited Agent form.

Applicants must complete and return to the AFL Players' Association the 'Application for Accreditation as an Accredited Agent' form. In support of this application the applicant must supply further documentation as outlined in the following steps. The application form will be available below at the start of the accreditation window on Tuesday 1 May 2012.

Step 2 - Obtain and supply a copy of Professional Indemnity Insurance

Applicants must hold appropriate professional indemnity insurance to support their application. A copy of this information must be supplied to the Players' Association with your application.  Applications without this documentation will not be accepted.

Minimum cover - $2 million

Step 3 - Obtain a National Police Record Check

Applicants must supply a National Police Certificate. To undertake a National Police Record Check please click here or download the online application form listed at the bottom of the page.  For interstate applicants please note that you are able to undertake this check via the Victorian Police website.

You must supply a copy of your Criminal History check with your application.   Applications without this documentation will not be accepted.

Upon successfully providing these documents and gaining approval from the Players' Association to sit the exam, each applicant will receive a study pack which will contain relevant reading materials along with their exam details.

Step 4 - Sit the Players' Association Accredited Agent Exam

Applicants must sit a supervised exam which deals with the applicant's knowledge of a range of collective instruments which apply to AFL Players including, but not limited to:

If the applicant has been unsuccessful in achieving a 75 percent pass mark or more, they will have to reapply for accreditation in future accreditation windows (i.e. May 2013)

What next?

Once the applicant has supplied a complete accreditation application and successfully passed the accreditation exam they will be invoiced for both their application fees and annual subscription.  Once paid the applicant will be issued with probationary accreditation.  Agent accreditation fees are as follows:

Accreditation Fee = $550 (including GST)
Application Fee = $440 (including GST)
Annual subscription = $990 (including GST)
TOTAL = $1980

Full Accreditation

To gain full Players' Association Agent Accreditation, applicants must attend the Players' Association Agent Accreditation Induction Day or alternatively, have undertaken an approved Athlete Management Course to be conducted prior to the annual Players' Association Accredited Agents Conference.

Upon attending the Induction session and Conference and fulfilling all other requirements, the Accredited Agent is supplied with an  Players' Association Accredited Agent pack and Certificate.
